Field2Fork/Slow Food Temecula Event

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

At the picturesque Leonesse Cellars Vineyard, passionate winemakers, chefs, and guests alike intermingled at the magnificent 3rd Annual Field2Fork Event, benefiting Slow Food Temecula. Local winery owners were on-hand, generously pouring their award-winning wines from Temecula Valley; participants included South Coast Winery, Ponte Family Estate Winery, Palumbo Family Vineyards and Winery, Robert Renzoni Vineyards, Oak Mountain Winery, Wiens Family Cellars, Briar Rose Winery, and many others.
Slow Food Temecula President and Founder Chef Leah di Bernardo welcomed the 500+ guests with a rousing call to action that emphasiz ed the importance of the Field2Fork benefit to help raise money for healthy school lunches, both locally and nationwide. Chef Evan Kleinman, host of KCRW’s Good Food and President of the Los Angeles Slow Food chapter, spoke briefly about her role in the founding of Slow Food LA after she visited Italy and saw how Europe values fresh, local food; she made it her goal to bring those healthy values to California.

Gourmet chefs from Temecula Valley restaurants prepared seasonal produce, meats and fish that paired perfectly with the local vino.  Lovely Viogniers, Cab Franc, Bordeaux blends and Syrahs topped the list of approachable varietals.  Served with a slight chill to balance the warm valley breeze, these friendly wines were indeed crowd pleasers and many went back for seconds — and thirds!

Why visit Temecula Valley wine country?

Monday, May 17th, 2010

Bill Wilson, Wilson Creek WineryWhat makes Temecula Valley Wine Country so special? Wow, let me count the ways. First, I have to go on record saying I am very humbled and honored to be serving as the President of this dynamic organization for a second term. Sometimes I feel like I have no idea what I am doing as President — but I am doing it with all the gusto I got!

And this is the number one thing that makes Temecula Valley Wine Country so special — the passion and gusto of our people. I am very fortunate to work with so many great, talented people in Temecula Valley wine country, who are all striving to create a warm, friendly and exciting wine tasting experience for our visitors and local fans.

Every day, I am amazed by the improvements and growth I see around me at our Temecula wineries. New vineyards, new wineries (both grand and small), and a passion to continually produce better and better wines from quality wine grapes. The energy, excitement and passion that exuded by the winemakers, winery owners and hardworking staff that work and live in our Wine Country is highly contagious.

There are wonderful wines and beautiful wineries in every wine region, but the common bond that runs through the veins of the people of Temecula Valley is incredible. Why? It’s not so much about who we are as who we are not. You won’t find a a bunch of highly successful movie stars, media moguls, sports stars, rich dot-com retirees, or heirs to any empire. We are just a dedicated group of hard working folks who are following our passion for this crazy business of growing and producing the best wine we can possibly make.

More often than not, you will see owners throughout our Wine Country working in some capacity around their winery. In my case there are eight (yes eight!) family members actively involved and floating around Wilson Creek Winery. And don’t forget our hard working Golden Retrievers, who make everyone feel warm and welcome.  So, if you are looking for a chance to try some great wines, meet the people involved in making them, and discover something great in your own backyard, come visit us in Temecula Valley wine country! We are around.
